WII FIT FRENZY HITS MIDTOWN

Wii Fit, the Nintendo exercise game designed to separate the potato from the couch, made its US debut in the Big Apple yesterday – and immediately sent hearts pounding and pulses racing.

“It’s like having a trainer without having a trainer,” said Brooklyn pharmacist Illanna Weiner, 26, waiting in line to buy the game at the Nintendo store in Rockefeller Center, where it was sold exclusively yesterday. By 2 p.m., 700 copies had been purchased there.

The game goes on sale nationwide tomorrow, and analysts expect it will sell 3 million copies this year. It’s a hot number in Japan and Europe, where it has already been introduced.

The game, which sells for $90, acts like a virtual trainer and allows users to do four categories of physical activity – balance, aerobics, yoga and strength training.

The catch is that you have to have a Wii console, which costs $250 and is in short supply.
