HAWKINS LOOKIN’ AT SUSPENSION

LaTroy Hawkins knows a suspension is on the way.

“You saw what happened to Farnsy [Kyle Farnsworth], you know it’s coming,” said Hawkins, who was tossed from last night’s morbid 12-2 loss to the Orioles because plate umpire Chuck Meriwether believed a pitch that was near Luke Scott’s head in the sixth inning was in retaliation for Derek Jeter getting drilled by Daniel Cabrera in the third.

“I will be appealing even though I haven’t been suspended yet,” Hawkins said.

Farnsworth drew a three-game ban that was appealed and dropped to one game for throwing close to Manny Ramirez’ head earlier this season, though he wasn’t ejected. He also was fined $2,000.

Hank Steinbrenner‘s desire to move away from using the computer and statistics to evaluate talent hasn’t resulted in him telling GM Brian Cashman to pull the plug on the laptop.

According to Cashman, Steinbrenner hasn’t voiced the same opinion he told The Post in Tuesday’s paper when he said, “We have to get away from relying too much on that computer stuff; that’s gotten out of hand.”

Joe Girardi didn’t feel a meeting with his players before or after last night’s game was needed, but he and his coaching staff met with Cashman in the GM’s office yesterday afternoon.

Cashman refused to say if he will send a scout to see free agent Freddy Garcia throw this week.
