WEINER HOT FOR EMIGRE MODEL BABES

Seems Anthony Weiner is working hard to increase his dating pool.

The New York Democratic congressman, who has wooed a bevy of beauties from the Big Apple to the Beltway, is pushing a bill that would open up 1,000 new visa slots – for models.

“Anytime you can create jobs in New York, you’ve got to do it,” said his spokesman, John Collins.

“The fashion industry is super-important in New York. It’ll make it easier for costume artists, makeup artists and set designers to do shoots in New York.”

Apparently, the pro posers have really had something to pout about ever since they were accidentally lumped into the same visa category as computer geeks in 1991.

The lithe lovelies have been going head to head with techies in a quest to get H-1B visas – which are intended for highly skilled workers.

With Silicon Valley screaming for brain power, it’s little wonder the catwalkers have been on the losing end of the battle for visas in recent years.

In fact, in fiscal year 2007, a mere 349 new H-1B visas were given to fashion models out of the roughly 85,000 available, according to a report that accompanies the bill.

It’s only appropriate that Weiner, whose current main squeeze was recently featured in a Vogue photo spread, would rush to the rescue.

“What this bill does is it reclassifies them [the models] into the arts, entertainment and performer [visa] category,” said Collins.

He said a byproduct of that is more high-tech workers would get the coveted H-1B visas.

Weiner’s pretty-people proposal has been kicking around since 2005, but recently cleared an important hurdle with the House Judiciary Committee.

Members finally agreed to vote on the bill, a small stiletto step in its long journey on becoming a law.

In a report, the committee said the existing visa “undermines our nation’s leadership role in the international fashion, publishing and advertising industries.”

Despite the apparent model drought, Weiner, 43, who represents parts of Queens and Brooklyn, has managed to snag his share of lookers.

While on the City Council, he dated Allison Joseph, better known to AOL sports fans as the scantily clad “Adrenaline Alli.”

He’s also been linked to New Yorker scribe Rebecca Mead and glam TV reporter Gigi Stone. And he recently hit the campaign trail to pal around with Huma Abedin, a top staffer in Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential bid who also posed for Vogue.
