RUTGERS LANDS SOUTH JERSEY STAR

Rutgers continued what is rapidly becoming its finest recruiting season ever when Penns Grove (NJ) High School star Aaron Hayward verbally committed yesterday. The 6-foot, 194-pounder is a four-star prospect according to scout.com, RU’s fourth in this 12-player Class of 2009.

The Carneys Point native was tabbed the country’s 15th-ranked running back by scout.com, rushing for 1,363 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior. But he could well end up as a wide receiver, or even in the secondary, after he had 48 tackles, three interceptions and forced two fumbles last season.

Hayward joins Hillside (NC) running back Desmond Scott, Cardinal O’Hara (Pa.) quarterback Tom Savage and Immaculata (NJ) lineman Mark Brazinski – scout.com’s top-ranked center – as four-star recruits for Scarlet Knight coach Greg Schiano. They can sign National Letters of Intent in February.
