DON’T EXPECT BRETT ON JETS

The Jets have no set starter at quarterback, and a Hall of Famer appears available. But don’t expect Brett Favre to don a different type of green jersey this season.

Favre, who retired publicly amid tears and cameras after last season, reportedly has asked Green Bay officials for his unconditional release. If the Packers agree, speculation will run rampant about teams that could use Favre.

The perception of many is the Jets, with veteran Chad Pennington and unproven Kellen Clemens, are one of those teams. Nevertheless, it is highly unlikely the Jets will have any interest.

Aside from the handful of veteran free agents they added this offseason, the Jets are in more of a youth movement. Though no one will say it publicly, it’s clear the Jets are hoping Clemens wins the job and justifies the team drafting him in the second round three years ago. Pennington lost his job to Clemens last season.
