The pregnant NYPD traffic agent who was fatally struck by a school bus was laid to rest before 1,000 mourners yesterday – cradling her infant, who was delivered after the accident but later died from his own injuries.
“Let us pray for her and the baby boy she dreamed of,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly at the funeral of Donnette Sanz, 33, and her son, Sean. “Her last act of heroism was Sean Michael Justin Sanz.”
Sanz’s boss, Lt. Mabel Dillegard, went to the Community Protestant Church in The Bronx – but couldn’t bring herself to go inside and see her friend, dressed in white, along with her baby.
Dillegard called Sanz a “person who touched your heart.”
Sanz died despite the efforts of 30 strangers who lifted the bus off her.
