MOSTLY UNHAPPY ‘GREETINGS’

CUTTING 30 minutes would have greatly benefited Greg Chwerchak’s “Greetings From the Shore,” an often charming romantic drama that outstays its welcome at nearly two hours.

I’d hazard a guess that producer Gabrielle Berberich resisted trimming her own autobiographical script about a young woman (Kim Shaw) who spends a summer in Lavalette on the Jersey Shore (where the film was nicely shot) after the death of her father. She goes to work as an assistant manager at a yacht club, where she’s befriended by an alcoholic cook (Paul Sorvino) and a hunky Cuban busboy (David Fumero) while trying to earn enough money to attend Columbia University in the fall.

“Greetings From the Shore” has its moments, but is encumbered by a lengthy subplot involving the club’s owner (Jay O. Sanders) and his boorish son (Alex Cendese).

Running time: 118 minutes. Rated R (profanity). At the Loews Village, Third Avenue and 11th Street.
