The Rams can’t be this bad. And it could have been worse.

The Eagles toyed with the Rams on the way to a 38-3 rout, during which the Eagles benched Donovan McNabb. The Rams were overwhelmed on both sides of the ball, but will look to bounce back with the Giants coming to St. Louis this Sunday.

“We were down 14-0 before we knew it,” Rams QB Marc Bulger says. “And we had to get off our game plan. It is one of those things you don’t want to look too far into it because we know we are not that bad of a team. But at the same time it is really disappointing because we were really having a good preseason.”

Their offensive line looked defenseless and the secondary helpless even with the Eagles’ top two receivers out of the game. It could be a green-light type of day for Eli Manning and Plaxico Burress.

“In the NFL you know you can’t take anyone lightly,” Manning says. “If you don’t show up with your A game, then not only are you going to lose, you will be embarrassed.

“We have to go out there and play extremely well.”

Big Blue must beware of the “Greatest Show on Turf” getting on track in Week 2. Steven Jackson missed the preseason because of a contract dispute and Marc Bulger was consistently under heat from Philadelhia’s front seven.

“We couldn’t get open,” Bulger says. “Couldn’t throw to the guys; we couldn’t run the ball.”
