Scandal-plagued Elmo puppeteer picks up Daytime Emmys

Puppeteer Kevin Clash, who left Sesame Street amid a mushrooming gay underage sex scandal last year, picked up a Daytime Emmy award last night in Los Angeles for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series.

He had clinched that award for his role as the red furry monster every year except 2005.

Clash was also awarded for Outstanding Directing in a Children’s Series with Ken Diego, Joey Mazzarino and Matt Vogel at the 40th annual ceremony.

Judges apparently weren’t influenced by the underage sex accusations five men made against since November 2012.

Clash, who played Elmo for 25 years, resigned that month after the first two men filed lawsuits against him.
