Passengers on a JFK-bound flight from Cairo, Egypt, were forced to land in Scotland yesterday after a passenger found a note in the bathroom reading, “I’ll set this plane on fire.”
Nada Tawfik, a producer for the BBC, said she found the message — scribbled on a napkin in pencil along with the seat number “46 D” — while changing her daughter’s diaper, the network reported.
The jet, carrying 326 passengers, was met by six police vehicles at Glasgow’s Prestwick Airport at 2:30p.m.
“It almost looked like a child’s handwriting or someone who has very sloppy handwriting, but it was very alarming,” Tawfik said.
Passengers were held in a boarding area for more than three hours before getting on another plane.
Authorities said they are taking the note seriously and don’t consider it a prank.
