This week’s couple: Long weight

Usually a date in which weight loss is discussed and traffic jams happen, the possibility of seeing each other again is not great. When Tony and Lindsay, both 28, met up for weekend brunch at the trendy SoHo spot Delicatessen, both of these things took place. Surprisingly, talking about shedding pounds didn’t rattle either of them — and some extra time chatting while stuck in traffic may have sealed the deal.

Last week’s article described Lindsay as “peppy,” which is fitting. She is fun to talk to and very pretty.

We found a way to relate to each other’s management positions, which helped us break away from typical conversations about music and television shows. We kept the conversation going for two hours.

Delicatessen was super busy, but the wait staff was attentive and took good care of us. I’d rate it highly on my list of weekend brunch spots.

I drove Lindsay back to her place. What should have taken 10 minutes ended with us stuck in traffic on First Avenue. She would have gotten home faster on the subway, but it gave us more time to chat.

Lindsay was sweet and believed in good manners. I don’t like to plan too far in the future — but a second date is in the works.

I arrived first at the restaurant, but Tony arrived a couple minutes later. He reminded me of one of my good college friends.

He started the conversation right away and wasn’t awkward or shy. We talked a lot about fitness, because Tony is training for a triathlon, and I trained for a half-marathon. We also had similar college “freshman 15” stories.

The service at Delicatessen was fantastic. We took awhile to look at the menu, because we were chatting, but the waiter was patient. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outdoors, amidst the trendy atmosphere.

Tony is down-to-earth, genuine and polite. We exchanged numbers and plan on hanging out again. I definitely want to get to know him better. I really enjoyed his company.
