CHSAA boys soccer roundup: Davis lifts Molloy over Holy Cross

Greg Davis scored a pair of goals to lift Archbishop Molloy to a 2-1 win against Holy Cross Tuesday afternoon. The defending CHSAA Class A intersectional champions improved to 2-0-1, but longtime Stanners coach Andy Kostel isn’t pleased.

“It’s going to be more work than I thought,” Kostel said. “There has to be more coordination, they have to be more dangerous and finish better when they are dangerous.”

Davis scored his first goal on a breakaway midway through the first half, but Holy Cross (0-3-0) leveled off a corner kick 10 minutes later. Davis scored his second goal on a direct free kick outside the area in the second half for Molloy, which meets Fordham Prep Thursday afternoon at Murphy Field in The Bronx in a rematch of last year’s title game.

St. Francis Prep 2, Xaverian 0: Andy Charleston and Frank Biordi struck for St. Francis Prep (2-0-1) Tuesday afternoon at Verrazano Narrows Complex in Brooklyn. Xaverian fell to 1-2-0.

Salesian 7, All Hallows 1: Tommy Manz had two goals and two assists and Sebastian Zambrano added two goals and one assist for Salesian (2-0-0) at Cook Field in Yonkers Tuesday afternoon.
