Cuomo accepts Dem nomination for Gov race

Andrew Cuomo has accepted the Democratic nomination for governor, completing a rise that began nearly 30 years ago when he ran his father’s campaigns for the same office.

Cuomo’s choice for running mate, Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy, has also accepted the nomination for lieutenant governor and, pending a challenge by fundraiser turned candidate Bill Samuels, will be Cuomo’s running mate.

The final act of the state Democratic convention on Thursday leads into the state Conservative Party convention on Friday, followed by the Republican convention next week.

Cuomo, the state’s attorney general, will face one of several Republicans candidates: former congressman Rick Lazio, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy or Buffalo developer Carl Paladino, who is associated with the GOP’s tea party movement.
