The Hamptons just kicked sand in the face of Florida’s beaches.
Coopers Beach in Southampton — with its baby powder-fine sand, great amenities and nary a gum wrapper in sight — has been selected as America’s No. 1 beach in an annual survey released today.
Main Beach in East Hampton made it to No. 5 on the top 10.
“I kind of think the east end of Long Island is a well-kept secret for most Americans,” said Stephen “Dr. Beach” Leatherman, director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research. Siesta Beach in Sarasota took the No. 2 spot.
