Hynoski looking to move on from ‘rusty’ Cowboys game

Jason Pierre-Paul is not the only Giants player coming off surgery who spent most of the summer on the physically unable to perform list and was not pleased with his performance in the season-opening loss to the Cowboys. Fullback Henry Hynoski missed a block and dropped a pass in the first quarter and, like Pierre-Paul, believes he will be better today against the Broncos.

“Yeah, I felt a little rusty,’’ said Hynoski, who underwent knee surgery in the spring. “First quarter, you can’t simulate the speed of the game in practice by all means. Going into the second quarter I felt like I was starting to play my type of ball again. That’s natural for that to happen. You have to have that little acclimation period and I’m glad that it happened now in the first game as opposed to later.’’

His offensive linemen kid him mercilessly about his lack of athleticism and so Eli Manning will love to hear these kind words from Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio: “He’s probably deceivingly athletic,’’ Del Rio said of Eli. “He’s mobile enough and obviously he’s very smart. He’s got a terrific cast of characters he distributes the ball to. He buys the time he needs and does the things he needs to do, including with his legs. He’ll run for a first down from time to time. He’s mobile enough.’’ … If possible, punter Steve Weatherford will do all he can to keep the ball out of the hands of Trindon Holliday, Denver’s pint-sized returner. Holliday has great speed and, at 5-foot-5, is difficult to find. “When he makes a cut he’s all by himself,’’ Tom Coughlin said. “He is dan-ger-ous. He makes one guy miss and he is something else. Wow.”

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride days later was still smarting about two of the three Eli Manning interceptions in the season-opening loss to the Cowboys. “We threw two interceptions on two screens, which is maybe the first time in 25 years in the National Football League,’’ Gilbride said. “It wasn’t very encouraging.’’

This week when the Giants go after the opposing quarterback it’s almost family, as it’s Eli Manning’s big brother Peyton “I mean, we all know what it is,’’ DE Mathias Kiwanuka said. “It’s a business and we would never do anything intentionally dirty to hurt their player but at the same time it’s football, it’s a violent sport and when we get there, we want to make him very uncomfortable in the pocket. .. When Peyton Manning gets his 51st passing yard today he will join Brett Favre and Dan Marino as the only players in NFL history with 60,000 passing yards. … Newly-inducted Bill Parcells in a halftime ceremony will be presented with his Hall of Fame ring. On hand to mark the occasion will be the five living Hall of Famers who spent all or a significant amount of time with the Giants: Harry Carson, Lawrence Taylor, Sam Huff, Frank Gifford and Y.A. Tittle.
