Moss signs Giants’ tender

Under the old collective bargaining agreement, Sinorice Moss would have been an unrestricted free agent, and even with that freedom might not have attracted a nibble or two on the open market. This offseason, with no new CBA in place, Moss is a restricted free agent and yesterday he signed the Giants’ one-year tender offer.

The signing means Moss for the 2010 season will be paid $1.176 million — if he makes the team. That’s a long shot, considering the diminutive receiver was active for only eight games last season and caught only one pass. The 2006 second-round draft pick out of Miami never has come close to living up to the expectations the Giants had for him.

Already, guard Kevin Boothe ($1.176 million), tackle Guy Whimper ($1.176) and defensive end Dave Tollefson ($1.684) have signed their tenders before today’s deadline.

Expected to sign by today are defensive tackle Barry Cofield ($1.759), linebacker Gerris Wilkinson ($1.176) and receivers Domenik Hixon ($1.684) and Derek Hagan ($1.176).
