‘Letter-stash’ mail carrier pulls a ‘Seinfeld’-esque stunt

Newman!

A Brooklyn postal worker allegedly pulled a stunt worthy of the unscrupulous mailman from “Seinfeld” when he was caught red-handed hiding hundreds of undelivered letters in the trunk of his car, officials said.

Letter carrier Peter Ramsdal, 26, who works out of the Dyker Heights Post Office, had stashed the bags of mail in his 2008 Mazda during a trip to the Catskills on April 21.

His hoard was discovered when he was pulled over for driving with a suspended registration, cops said.

As Catskills officers impounded his car, they found three US Postal Service mailbags with 537 pieces of mail.

“We did an inventory search because it was going to be impounded,” said Lt. Gregory Sager, of the Catskills Police Department.

“We found three large bags of mail, unopened and opened, time-sensitive mail, priority mail. He said he had taken it. We don’t know where he was going,” Sager said. The local officers told federal postal inspectors about the pilfered mail, and Ramsdal was placed under investigation.

He later allegedly admitted to a postal inspector that he purposely delayed the mail, according to documents.

An arrest warrant for Ramsdal, the father of a 3-year-old boy, was issued yesterday. His mother told The Post she didn’t know where he was or about any mail charges.

It is not known how long he had worked for the Postal Service. He was not assigned to any particular route but filled in for other letter carriers who were off.

“I’ve been having a lot of problems not getting my mail,” said Les Arno, who owns a store in the Dyker Beach postal area and thought he recognized Ramsdal. “I called customer relations and complained. They are not giving me any information.”

Mayna Bragdon also recalled missing mail.

“Last year, I swear, for a month I didn’t get any mail,” the 41-year-old teacher said.

“I called the post office to complain, and they said I have to talk to the carrier.”
