My name is Mike and you’ll be ‘waiting’ on me today

Not so fast.

A less than enthusiastic Mayor Bloomberg yesterday reined in Donald Trump’s plan to restore the iconic Tavern on the Green.

“Tavern on the Green doesn’t exist at the moment,” Bloomberg said, noting that the Central Park site will operate as a visitor center and spot for ethnic food carts until October.

And he said if the city decides to lease the site as a restaurant, it might be kept small, “which might fit in a little bit better in terms of today’s needs.”

But Trump’s plan to restore Tavern to its glory has its supporters, including Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and former Mayor Ed Koch.

Trump’s ace in the hole appears to be the backing of the Hotel and Motel Traders Council. Union president Peter Ward praised Trump for planning to create “400 to 500 high-quality jobs . . . with benefits for workers at a time when that is much more difficult.”
