Brett Favre says his sleazy play for Jenn Sterger was an audible — but not a visual.
The married quarterback admitted to leaving voicemails wooing the stunning ex-model two years ago — but insisted he never texted her pictures of his penis, according to Fox Sports.
The NFL is investigating a slew of slimy missives — including text messages and MySpace comments — that the gridiron star reportedly sent to the former Jets sideline reporter, who is now an on-air personality for the cable sports channel Versus. If Favre is found to have violated the league’s player-conduct policies, he could face suspension and fines.
In a meeting with the NFL’s vice president of security, Milt Ahlerich, on Tuesday, Favre owned up only to the voicemails, Fox’s Jay Glazer reported yesterday.
Deadspin, the Web site that first reported the messages and penis pix, noted that both the voicemails and the images originated from the same phone number.
On one voicemail, Favre, an ex-Packer and current Viking who played for the Jets at the time, suggested Sterger meet him at his hotel room.
“Just got done with practice, got meetings here for a couple more hours, then I’m going back to the hotel to just chill,” he said. “So send me a text. So I’ll be in the building for a couple of hours . . . Send me a text. I’d love to see you tonight.”
In another voice message, Favre apparently responds to an earlier comment Sterger made to a Jets exec in which she said she wouldn’t date someone as high-profile as Favre because she “might end up in a garbage can.”
NFL officials refused to comment yesterday.
Favre’s manager did not immediately return a call for comment.
Sterger’s lawyer has talked to the NFL about cooperating with the investigation.
“She is strongly considering it, leaning toward it,” her manager, Phil Reese, said last night.
Asked if he knew whether Favre had admitted leaving voicemails for Sterger but denied sending photos, Reese said only:
“We’re currently in the fact-gathering stage. Unfortunately, the person in the pictures didn’t also hold up their driver’s license, so I’m not going to speculate as far as identity.”
Reese also said that several former FBI agents are “working diligently” to find out who gave Sterger’s phone number to Favre.
“There’s a person of interest . . . and he is very well aware that we know who he is,” said Reese.
A Jets spokesman said the team “will continue to cooperate with the league’s investigation.”
The team has previously said that it was not aware of the messages to Sterger until Deadspin wrote about them two years after they were sent.
Favre threw three interceptions last night in a 28-24 Viking loss against the Packers in Green Bay.
