Takahashi likely leaving Mets

Hisanori Takahashi’s future with the Mets got cloudier yesterday after the pitcher switched agents, going from Peter and Ed Greenberg to Arn Tellem. His contract is due to expire on Sunday.

When he signed with the Mets before the season, Takahashi had a clause inserted into his contract that would make him a free agent at the end of the month without an extension, and with a new agent in place and Mets’ management still in a state of flux, an agreement by Sunday seems unlikely.

If the two sides can’t come together by then, the Mets won’t be able to bring the lefty back until May 15. Takahashi served multiple roles for the Mets in his rookie season last year and was most effective coming out of the bullpen.
