Giants can’t catch break with injured receivers

There probably won’t be any surprisingly good news coming out about the latest two Giants receivers to go down with injuries.

Coach Tom Coughlin offered no real update yesterday on the status of Steve Smith and Mario Manningham, both of whom were forced out of Monday’s 21-3 victory over the Vikings and appear unlikely to be ready for Sunday’s battle with the Eagles.

Both players were sent for MRI exams and tests to determine the extent of their injuries.

Smith, who returned after missing four games with a partially torn pectoral muscle, caught only one pass. While making that reception, he injured his hamstring when he was pulled down from behind by Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway. Consider Smith extremely doubtful this week.

Manningham did not play in the second half because of a hip flexor injury, and those often linger. Consider Manningham unlikely to play this weekend as well. That means it very likely could be Derek Hagan joining Hakeem Nicks in the starting lineup.

Reserve linebacker and special teams player Clint Sintim has a torn ACL. He will need knee surgery once the swelling goes down and he’s done for the season.

Defensive end Justin Tuck came out of the game with a rib contusion and afterward said he hurt “tremendously.” He probably will need a few days to get well.

Center Shaun O’Hara has missed the last seven games with a mid-foot sprain. O’Hara, asked after the game if he expected to play Sunday, said “That’s the plan.”

* After not allowing a sack in a team-record five straight games, QB Eli Manning was sacked in the third quarter by Jared Allen to end the streak.
