65-31 ‘aye’ vote awaits O’s pen

The US Senate voted, 65-31, yesterday to repeal the 1993 “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy barring openly gay men and women from the US military, a week after the House approved similar legislation. The historic vote clears the way for President Obama to sign the bill into law.

“No longer will our nation be denied the service of thousands of patriotic Americans forced to leave the military, despite years of exemplary performance, because they happen to be gay,” Obama said.
