Woody would return to Jets or Patriots: reports

Damien Woody is not ruling out a return to the Jets … or the Patriots.

The veteran offensive tackle told the Boston Herald going to back the Patriots, the team that drafted him and for whom he played his first five seasons, would be “intriguing.”

”I would consider all options, so yeah, definitely,” Woody told the newspaper. ”I had a great time up there. I didn’t leave on any bad terms or anything like that. That would definitely be intriguing, coming back.”

Woody, 33, was cut by the Jets on Monday, along with fellow veterans Kris Jenkins and Jason Taylor. When one of Woody’s Twitter followers asked if re-signing with the Jets was a possibility, Woody responded, “it could happen.”

The Jets don’t seem in much of a rush with Woody recovering from an Achilles injury and a lockout likely to begin at 11:59 Thursday night.

“I would love to be back there, and they’ve already told me that they would like to have me back,” Woody said Thursday in an interview with ProFootballTalk.com. “We’ll see how it all goes. Right now the most important thing for me moving forward is just getting healthy and rehabbing this Achilles, and let everything fall into place.”

Woody told NJ.com his rehab is going smoothly and his target is to be 100 percent in June.

Reports say the Patriots will part with offensive lineman Nick Kaczur, who does not want to take a pay cut to stay, and Stephen Neal retired this week.

Woody, who signed with the Jets in 2008 after four years with the Lions, also received well wishes from Patriots fans on the social network.

“You would not believe how many New England people on my Twitter account, are, ‘Dude, you gotta come back. We would definitely welcome you back up here,'” Woody said.
