Firetruck kills 1 on SI

A firetruck blasted into a van full of developmentally disabled adults on Staten Island in a horrific crash yesterday, killing one person and critically injuring two others, authorities and witnesses said.

The Ladder Company 81 truck was going north on Richmond Road with its lights on and sirens blaring when it slammed into the van, authorities said.

The van, owned by Willowbrook-based Lifestyles for the Disabled, was making a left turn with the green light in its favor, said witnesses.

“I said to myself, ‘That van has to step on it or else they’re going to collide,’ ” said witness Ali Alsaede. “And then, boom!”

Eric Perry, 51, who was killed, and the two patients in critial condition were all in the van.

The van’s six other occupants suffered minor injuries, as did the six firefighters in the truck.
