This week’s couple: Great vintage

When Kyle and Julia, both 26, met for dinner at the Midtown steakhouse Cityhouse, they really struck a chord. The restaurant’s throwback musical choices not only got graduate student Julia grooving, it also helped her break the ice with her sales-rep date. The duo bonded over oldies and karaoke, but we had to wonder if this date was a one-hit wonder or one that will play on for a long time.

She said:

Kyle and I started chatting right away. When we walked in the restaurant there was oldies music playing, which seemed a little unusual, but when I commented that I liked it, we discovered our mutual love. The conversation segued into karaoke, which Kyle does a lot of.

We also spent time talking about travel. We both do a lot of it, but other than that, we didn’t have much in common. We grew up in different parts of the county, studied completely different things and are doing different things with our lives.

Overall, though, I did have a good time. Kyle was very polite, and we didn’t have any awkward “first-date moments.” I would totally be up for seeing Kyle again, but at least for me, the connection was more platonic. I am always up for making new friends!

My first impression of Julia was that she had a natural beauty about her. She looked a little nervous, but so was I. As the night went on, I think we both started opening up. We talked about our travels, and I could tell she’s a really busy girl, which was great because she’s definitely not boring. I was trying to get her to laugh as much as possible because I thought she had a great smile.

When she mentioned her love of oldies, I was really impressed. I’m a music fanatic, especially about oldies and it was great to find out we had a mutual appreciation for it.

It’s hard to say if there was any romantic interest between us, but she was a fun girl. I would like to see her again. We’ll just have to see what happens.
