Delivery bicyclist killed in collision with city bus

A delivery bicyclist was killed by a city bus today after the two collided on the Upper East Side, authorities said.

The rider was heading eastbound on East 96th Street when he was fatally struck by an M15 bus traveling south on Second Avenue at 4:10 p.m., according to witnesses.

The victim was hit by the front of the bus, slid underneath the vehicle and, then, had his head crushed by a rear tire, witnesses added.

The bus driver kept going, apparently unaware he had struck someone.

Transportation officials and cops are still seeking the bus, said an MTA spokesman.

Aside from the M15, there are also out-of-service express buses that take the same road to get to their routes, the spokesman added.

As the investigation unfolded, the victim — whose identity wasn’t immediately released — lay dead in the street with a white sheet on top of him as passersby looked on in horror.

“The conditions of the streets are a mess. It’s not surprising he got hit today,” said resident Cynthia Gagan, 66, who saw the accident’s bloody aftermath while walking home from the grocery store.

Gagan said the intersection is accident prone, a view shared by a worker from a nearby Rite-Aid pharmacy.

“I see accidents happen here all the time. This one just happened to slip by because you didn’t hear a loud bang or a crash,” said one employee who declined to give his name.

“Everything went on as normal until people found him on the street and started calling 911.”

A van from the coroner’s office arrived at 6:30 p.m. to remove the body and take it to the morgue.

The intersection remained closed as NYPD Highway Patrol investigators examined the scene.
