Massachusetts DA to releases evidence in case of Craigslist killer Philip Markoff

BOSTON — Massachusetts prosecutors are detailing their evidence against a man accused of killing a woman he met through Craigslist, including a hollowed-out medical handbook where he allegedly hid a gun.

Philip Markoff, a former Boston University medical student, committed suicide in jail in August while awaiting trial. He had been charged with killing New York City masseuse Julissa Brisman at a Boston hotel in 2008.

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley planned to discuss numerous pieces of evidence Thursday afternoon from the Markoff prosecution.

Before the news conference, prosecutors displayed some of it, including a hollowed-out copy of the “Gray’s Anatomy” book, where they say Markoff stored the handgun used to kill Brisman.

Brisman’s mother expressed frustration last month that Conley had not released the case file six months after Markoff’s death.
