‘Melo unsure Nets can thrive in Brooklyn

Carmelo Anthony has mixed feelings on whether the Nets will make it big in his hometown borough in 2012. It’s probably the major reason why his major preference was being traded to the Knicks, though The Post reported last month he would have signed an extension with the Nets if Denver liked their offer better.

Asked if the Nets will make their mark in Brooklyn, Anthony said he’s not sure.

“I really don’t know,” said Anthony, who left Brooklyn for Baltimore when he was 9 years old. “Brooklyn is a sports-fanatic borough. Once they get there, they can actually have something to root for. Although it’s still a lot of Knicks fans over there, they can have something they can say is theirs.”

Last night, Anthony notched 39 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the Knicks’ 120-116 victory over the Nets.

Coach Mike D’Antoni said he could be a triple-double guy like LeBron James.

“He should be nightly getting close to a triple-double,” D’Antoni said. “The ball should go through him a lot, and he should be knocking at that door a lot.”

The Knicks’ decision not to hold home morning shootarounds the past two seasons was not D’Antoni’s call but stemmed from a study by the club’s medical staff spearheaded by Dr. Lisa Callahan, the director of medical care, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The misperception is it was D’Antoni’s decision. The sleep study showed it was better for the players to get the rest for home games because of their double commutes to their Westchester compound and the Garden. The Knicks have held road shootarounds the past two seasons as the club’s hotel usually is a couple of minutes from the arena.

One league source said Dr. Callahan, who was hired by Isiah Thomas in an overseer role, has much more influence than most team doctors, which is why she has a special title. The Knicks are now 2-0 after holding home morning shootarounds after yesterday’s win, but they aren’t practicing more, just in a different sequence. Sunday’s practice/shootaround was canceled as was Tuesday’s practice/shootaround. Both were moved to the morning of the games.
