INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

METS: Young, a 6-foot-10 sinkerballer, was signed this offseason after five injury-riddled seasons with the Padres. He had a stellar spring (1.78 ERA in six starts, .191 opponents avg), but the health of his shoulder must be in the back of every Mets fan’s mind. Young has a 6.60 career ERA at Citizens Bank Park.

PHILLIES: Hamels, at 27 the youngest member of the Phillies’ vaunted Big Four starters, had a deceptively brilliant season a year ago, when he struck out a career-high 211 batters but lost six games in which he recorded a quality start. He’s 2-8 lifetime with a 3.83 ERA against the Mets.

WHO’S HOT

Phillies slugging first baseman Ryan Howard blasted out of the gates, going 7-for-13 with a home run and six RBIs.

WHO’S NOT

Center fielder Angel Pagan went 2-for-11 with just one RBI in the Mets’ series win over the Marlins, though he did walk three times.

STAT SO?

In his last two full seasons in 2006 and 2007, Young led the National League in fewest hits allowed per nine innings — 6.7 and 6.1, respectively.
