Ivory Coast slaughter

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast — Rival forces were accused of massacring hundreds in western Ivory Coast yesterday, on the third day of a fierce battle for Abidjan, the West African nation’s capital.

The International Red Cross said 800 died in the town of Duekoue, and the UN mission accused fighters from both camps — cornered strongman Laurent Gbagbo, and internationally recognized president-elect Alassane Ouattara — of carrying out mass killings.
