De Blasio’s fine fiasco

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio — who hopes to run for City Hall in 2013 — is now fighting City Hall in hopes of beating $304,500 in fines his campaign received for putting up illegal posters two years ago.

Along with many other candidates, de Blasio was slapped with thousands of violations by Sanitation Department agents for attaching campaign posters to public property.

De Blasio is headed to court to demand an appeal.

Each summons carries a $75 penalty. In de Blasio’s case, there were 4,060, so his ticket tab surpassed $300,000.

Losing 2009 mayoral candidate Bill Thompson is appealing $619,125 in fines for the same offense.
