Born To Be Wild 3D

It’s sort of poetic justice that the wretched “Sucker Punch” is getting kicked off four Manhattan IMAX screens after just two weeks by this charming nature documentary. With rare exceptions like “Avatar,” the IMAX format, especially in 3-D, has always been better suited to less eye-straining films running under an hour.

Morgan Freeman narrates the fascinating footage of Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas, who has long headed a foundation dedicated to raising baby primates left homeless by the destruction of rainforests in Borneo, and Dr. Dame Daphne M. Sheldrick, who does similar work with orphaned elephants in Kenya.

David Lickley’s “Born To Be Wild 3D” follows efforts to repatriate the animals into the wild. For maximum enjoyment, see this on the enormous classic IMAX screen at the Lincoln Square — not the much smaller “Digital IMAX” screens at the Empire, 34th Street and Kips Bay.
