NBC ‘Today’ co-host Matt Lauer to leave show when contract expires in 2012

NBC’s “Today” co-host Matt Lauer has told the network that he will be leaving the show when his contract expires on Dec. 31, 2012, according to a new report.

The “Today” show released a statement Wednesday that neither confirmed nor denied the report.

“There seems to be an awful lot of speculation around news anchors these days, and it’s not our practice to comment on any of it,” it read. “Matt Lauer has a long term contract with NBC News and ‘Today.'”

Entertainment Tonight, citing a source, reported that Lauer was leaving.
