Edwards ‘wouldn’t mind’ re-signing with Jets; calls DUI ‘BS’

Braylon Edwards “wouldn’t mind” returning to the Jets, although the free agent receiver doesn’t sound too enamored with New York City.

In an interview on Detroit radio this week, Edwards also called his DUI stop “BS” and said one of the reasons it got so much attention was because it happened in New York City.

“The bad thing about this situation is I never drive in New York,” Edwards said while promoting a charity basketball game at the University of Michigan.

“One I don’t know where the heck I’m going and two the roads are too bumpy and traffic is crazy. I usually always have a chauffeur, but it was a random situation. I went to a teammate’s event and stepped out after that. Why I got pulled over wasn’t even because of erratic driving or suspicion of intoxicated driving, it was for tinted windows, which is some BS. But things happen. But you learn from it; no matter if you drive there you should have someone else drive back be at a car service, cab, a friend. Don’t put yourself in that situation.”

Edwards was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Sept. 21 last year with a blood alcohol level of 0.16 — twice the legal limit. The Jets benched him for the first quarter in their next game — a 31-23 win over the Dolphins in which he scored a crucial touchdown.

“It did because I wasn’t the only guy to get a DUI last year,” Edwards said when asked if the New York City media was the reason the arrest became such a big story.

“A couple of athletes around the league have gotten DUIs, but the mere fact that I was in New York, playing for the Jets, we had just got off ‘Hard Knocks,’ everyone was waiting for us to do something wrong anyway, it blew up. It comes with the territory. At first I didn’t understand and I was upset, but then I figured it out.”

Once the NFL’s labor dispute is resolved the Jets have to decide if they are able to bring Edwards and fellow free agent receiver Santonio Holmes back.

“I wouldn’t mind ending up back with the Jets. I think we have a good chemistry and a good rapport and we’re building on something,” said Edwards, who predicted the owners and union would reach an agreement by July or August.

“I’m tired of things changing. With Cleveland it was always changing and even to get to the Jets it was ever changing, but now I see us having something and developing something and I would like to be a part of it. If it doesn’t go that way it’s football, it’s life, and things happen. Just a good situation. Just a situation where I don’t have to start from scratch like the Buffalo Bills or something.”
