Celtics without Shaq for Game 2 vs. Knicks

WALTHAM, Mass. — The Celtics will continue to depend on the “other” O’Neal against the Knicks.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Monday that Shaquille O’Neal will miss Tuesday’s Game 2 against the Knicks. Rivers said he does not know when O’Neal will return from his calf injury and only would say he expects him back at some point.

With Shaq sidelined, Jermaine O’Neal had 12 points and four rebounds in Boston’s 87-85 Game 1 victory Sunday night.

“We won the game because of Jermaine O’Neal,” Rivers said afterward. “Forget his offense. His defense, his presence, his shot-blocking, his rebounding, his toughness. And he did it in both halves. He was absolutely wonderful.”
