Cop dragged while trying to bust joyriding teen motorcyclists

Sometimes being a cop can be a drag — even if you get the bad guys.

An uptown police captain was yanked six to eight feet along a Washington Heights sidewalk as he tried to bust a pair of joyriding teen motorcyclists, police said.

Capt. Jose A. Navarro, commander of the 34th Precinct, still managed to collar the motorcyclist. Another cop busted the bike’s passenger.

Navarro was leaving a 34th Precinct community council meeting at IS 143 on West 182nd Street on Wednesday evening as Robert A. Casilla, 19, zoomed his motorcycle on the sidewalk at about 20 mph.

Navarro stepped in front of Casilla’s Yamaha motor cross bike and ordered him to stop.

But Casilla kept going — so Navarro grabbed Casilla and the bike’s handlebars.

“Capt. Navarro was dragged a distance of six to eight feet before the motorcycle crashed into a stairway railing outside the school,” police said in a statement.

Casilla’s passenger, Franllely Alvarado, also 19, jumped off the bike and ran off. He didn’t get far — another cop, Officer Haydee Pabey, chased him down.

Navarro, a 17-year NYPD veteran, suffered bruises and abrasions, and strained his back.

Casilla and Alvarado are charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated unlicensed driving and other counts.
