Earthwork

‘Earthwork” is a hokey movie about Kansas crop artist Stan Herd, who in 1994 created a massive piece of environmental art on derelict Upper West Side land owned by Donald Trump, who probably cares more about his hairdo than about the environment.

While his wife (Laura Kirk) struggles to survive back home with the couple’s young son, Herd (John Hawkes, of “Winter’s Bone”) fights to build the piece from soil, rock, plants and vegetation.

The movie is said to be based on “a true story,” but just how much is fact and how much is fiction is unclear.

Certainly, the homeless people who help Herd are straight from central casting, as are the wealthy Manhattanites who take up his cause.

Directed, written and produced by Chris Ordal, “Earthwork” is best left to TV.
