State Sen. Carl Kruger may have to face two trials next year on charges that he pocketed more than $1 million in pay-to-play bribes.
Lawyers for two co-defendants accused of paying off the Brooklyn Democrat argued yesterday that separate juries should hear evidence of his alleged influence peddling for the hospital and real-estate industries.
Gerald Lefcourt, representing lobbyist Richard Lipsky, said the charges against Lipsky and developer Aaron Malinsky involve alleged crimes during 2010 and ’11, while “the hospital stuff is ’07 and ’08.”
Prosecutor Glen McGorty contended the defendants should be tried together because “they all had knowledge of the conspiracy.”
Judge Jed Rakoff said he would rule on the request by May 23.
