Dead whale washes ashore on Long Island beach

A whale that appeared to be dead washed ashore on Atlantic Beach, Long Island Wednesday.

SkyFoxHD was over the beach at 9 a.m. where a crowd had gathered.

Reporter Kai Simonsen described the beached whale as the size of a large SUV.

It is not clear what type of whale the dead mammal is or how long it had been dead. A large portion of the whale appeared to be badly decomposed.

Typically, when dead mammals wash onto beaches, marine experts are brought in to assess the animal.
