Just grin and bear the trolls

The trolls are coming! The trolls are coming! The Godzilla-size creatures with bulbous noses, ferocious roars and as many as three heads are roaming the mountains and forests of Norway.

The government says the beasts are the figment of people’s imaginations, but we all know our leaders aren’t to be trusted.

In André Ovredal’s droll, found-footage mockumentary “Trollhunter,” three college journalists, armed with a video camera, investigate a series of strange killings of bears.

At first they suspect that a middle-aged gent named Hans is poaching the bears. Turns out he’s a disgruntled government worker whose job is to keep the existence of the trolls from the public.

Hans confirms that trolls are for real and that they turn to stone or explode when they’re exposed to sunlight and, for some unexplained reason, hate Christians.

He allows the college kids to tag along if they follow his instructions, which include covering their bodies with “troll stench” so they blend in with the beasts.

In the most frightening scene, Hans and his entourage are trapped in a cave with trolls who foul the air with noxious flatulence. The adventure ends in a pitched battle with a super-troll.

You’ll want to catch this clever movie before Hollywood ruins everything with a dumb remake.
