President Obama says Weiner will ‘bounce back’ from sexting scandal

President Obama said that former Rep. Anthony Weiner will “bounce back” from the sexting scandal that forced him to resign from Congress.

“I wish Rep. Weiner and his lovely wife well,” Obama said in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” that aired this morning.

“Obviously, it’s been a tough incident for him, but I’m confident that they’ll refocus and he’ll refocus, and they’ll end up being able to bounce back.”

Weiner admitted last week that he exchanged lewd photos with six women over Twitter and Facebook.

Weiner, 46, resigned Thursday after it was first revealed three weeks ago that he’d tweeted a photo of his crotch to a Seattle woman.

Once the scandal erupted, Democrats quickly distanced themselves from him.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi called for an ethics-committee investigation, and the party’s leadership prepared an orchestrated effort to oust him.

More lewd photos and online conversation emerged with his female correspondents, including a former porn star, a Georgia cheerleading coach and a Las Vegas blackjack dealer.

Yet more embarrassing photos — taken in the congressional members-only gym, no less — emerged, and on Monday, President Obama broke his silence, saying he “would resign” if he were in Weiner’s shoes.
