Mad money

An anonymous bidder paid $15.9 million for a 1721 Stradivarius violin (“A $tring of Beauty,” June 22).

It seems like every time such an outrageous price is paid for a musical instrument, it’s always by an anonymous bidder.

It finally occurred to me why the buyer chooses to stay anonymous. If you were to identify yourself as a person who would pay $15.9 million for a violin, surely the men in the white coats and butterfly nets would be making a house call.
