Thugs torched a Brooklyn subway station’s token booth early this morning — terrifying the helpless clerk who was trapped inside.
The horrifying attack is reminiscent of the city’s crime-filled past.
The two men strolled into the deserted Prospect Park station on the Q line shortly after 5 a.m. and immediately flung gasoline into the opening used to change money at the booth — then tossed a lit match onto the gasoline, MTA officials said.
The station attendant —a 17-year MTA employee — managed to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher quickly.
She was taken to New York Methodist Hospital and treated for trauma and possibly smoke inhalation, said Jim Gannon, a spokesman for the transit union.
“It hearkens back to the 80’s and 90’s when there was a rash of those things,” said Gannon.
Officials believe that the two men — who are still at large — were trying to rob the booth.
