Seton Hall-Rutgers will play twice next season

Seton Hall will face defending national-champion Connecticut, DePaul and Rutgers twice in its 18-game Big East Conference schedule in 2011-12.

The Pirates and coach Kevin Willard will have home games at Prudential Center with Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, St. John’s and West Virginia.

The schedule, announced Thursday, has Seton Hall playing games at Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Marquette, Providence, Rutgers, South Florida, Syracuse and Villanova.

Bett Shelby has been hired as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Seton Hall.

Shelby spent last season as the Southern Illinois recruiting coordinator, and she will help Pirates coach Anne Donovan in that area.

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Shelby also has been an assistant at Tennessee Tech and Stetson. She spent two years as the director of basketball operations at East Carolina.

Shelby spent her first year at the collegiate level as a team manager for Pat Summitt at Tennessee. She transferred to North Carolina-Wilmington, where she played two seasons. The Seahawks went 22-6 in her first season.

Shelby played her junior and senior seasons at Greensboro College, where she served as team captain.
