Christopher Schwarzenegger hospitalized after surfing accident

LOS ANGELES — Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver said Friday their 13-year-old son Christopher was expected to make a full recovery from injuries he sustained in a surfing accident over the weekend.

The couple’s youngest child has been in ICU with multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung as a result of an accident while he was boogie boarding Sunday at Malibu Beach in Southern California, according to People magazine.

“While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery,” Schwarzenegger, 63, and Shriver, 55, said in a joint statement Friday.

“On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son,” the statement added.

“Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother!” older sister Katherine, 21, tweeted Friday, adding, “He’s a tough little guy and getting better!”

“This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying,” his brother Patrick, 17, also tweeted.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver are in the process of divorcing after 25 years of marriage following the revelation that the former California governor had fathered a child with a housekeeper who worked in the family’s home for 20 years.
