ABC cancels ‘Charlie’s Angels’ reboot

LOS ANGELES — ABC has canceled “Charlie’s Angels,” after the new TV series starring Minka Kelly flagged in the ratings, the Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

The show scored an audience of 8.7 million on its September 22 premiere but in subsequent weeks proved unable to hold viewers at the Thursday 8pm ET timeslot against competition from CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” and FOX’s “The X Factor.”

ABC has shut down production of “Charlie’s Angels,” but previously taped episodes will continue to air for the time being. There are believed to be seven episodes that have been filmed.

The series was widely panned after its debut, with The Boston Globe saying it features an “underwhelming cast [that] brings nothing to the boilerplate action.”

Actress Drew Barrymore, who starred in the film adaptations of the TV crime drama from the 1970s, served as an executive producer for the TV remake.
