PSAL Bowl/Cup division football roundup: Bayside runs through Madison, remains perfect

Long live the Oompa Loompas.

That’s the nickname that has been given to Bayside’s short, thick offensive line that has been a dominant force this season. A 28-6 win Saturday over James Madison made the Commodores the lone undefeated team remaining in the PSAL Bowl division.

“They’re all little, short guys with wide bodies and at this level they compete very well,” Bayside coach Jason Levitt said. … “They just want to keep hitting and hitting and hitting.”

The unit, made up of Michael Collins, Mark Malave, David Jenkins, Wayne Gray, Allan McKinnis and Jason Williams, has been the key ingredient in Bayside’s excellent season just two seasons removed from the City Championship division. None of them play two ways, keeping them fresh the entire game.

On Saturday against Madison (4-2), Tim Capers, George Wallace and Richard Vaughan all scored rushing touchdowns and Julian Moody threw a touchdown pass to Tobi Shobitan. Wendell O’Brien and Shobitan both added interceptions, Darren Moore Jr. recovered a fumble and Antonio Agro forced a safety for Bayside (6-0), which missed the playoffs with a 6-4 record last year. The Commodores host Jamaica in Week 7, while Madison heads to Grady.

“This was our most overall complete game,” Levitt said. “We’re very well balanced as far as offense, defense and special teams. We’re in a good spot.”

To him, there’s been one standout unit, though.

“It’s really been our offensive line,” Levitt said. “They just want to go at it. And our running backs, we just have a stable of them in there.”

Lafayette 13, Grady 8: John Rodriguez was just 2-of-5 passing, but both of the completions went for touchdowns for 83 yards as Lafayette (4-2) pulled the upset.
