Girls basketball roundup: Claps nears milestone as SIA beats New Dorp

Bethany Claps is a step closer to a milestone.

The Staten Island Academy junior scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 66-54 non-league girls basketball win over host New Dorp Thursday. It puts her five points away from 1,000 career points, a mark she hopes to hit at home against Curtis in a game scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

Casey Bray and Mayana LeGrande each tallied 16 points and C.J. Bernieri added 10 for Staten Island Academy (10-3). Alexa Andrickson led New Dorp (6-8) with 18 points.

PSAL CLASS A

Brooklyn Tech 35, Clara Barton 18: Niri Halperin had 11 points and Crystal Barnes had 10 points for Brooklyn Tech (8-1 Brooklyn A East). Clara Barton is 5-4.

Hillcrest 62, Van Buren 33: Ruth Paul had 24 points and Danielle Pearce had 12 points to lead Hillcrest (9-0 Queens A East). Van Buren is 3-7.

Hunter College HS 52, George Washington 41: Emily Jiang had 25 points, Caroline Herrmann had 11 points and Dominque Russell added 10 for Hunter (3-5 Manhattan A East). GW is 1-8 in Manhattan A North.

A.P. Randolph 53, Health Professions 31: Jete Griffin had 18 points and Paris Prince and Rihonna Gaynor each had 10 points for Randolph (6-3 Manhattan A North). Health Professions is 5-2 in Manhattan A East.

PSAL CLASS B

Scholars Academy 66, RFK 35: Becky Moers had 22 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to lead Scholars (14-1, 10-0 Queens B East). Jessica Glaz had 19 points, nine rebounds and three assists and Kristin Dchiutiis added nine points and nine assists. RFK is 5-5.
