A twisted “stalker” who “harassed and annoyed” Caroline Kennedy’s daughter for nearly three years — sending her a series of emails and letters that were signed “Your Hubby” — is trying to get the charges tossed, arguing that the family waited too long to call cops, according to court papers.
Naeem Ahmed, 41, is accused of bombarding 20-year-old Tatiana Schlossberg with emails — including 40 e-cards — starting in April 2008, authorities said.
Ahmed was arrested on Dec. 8 and has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of aggravated harassment and a misdemeanor stalking count.
Ahmed, a Pakistani immigrant, is being held on $25,000 bail and a judge also ordered an order of protection.
“The police have had reason to question the reliability of [Tatiana Schlossberg],” according to defense filings. “The alleged harassment has been going on since 2008 without reporting the incident to any law-enforcement agency.”
Furthermore, Ahmed’s defense team argued that “there is no articulated reason for such a long delay.”
Ahmed is also insisting he didn’t threaten the girl.
“Defendant contends that neither at the time of the alleged phone calls, direct email communications or e-card greetings, nor at any other time, did the defendant engage in any threatening or harassing condut toward the complainant,” he argued in papers, “either on the phone or in person or by any other means of communication.”
The defense is also calling for a pre-trial hearing to determine if officers had probable cause to arrest Ahmed.
Manhattan prosecutors detailed in a criminal complaint that Ahmed had sent Schlossberg flowers and balloons and phone messages left at her dad Edwin Schlossberg’s Manhattan office.
In one delivery sent on Oct. 20, 2008, Ahmed sent roses and a balloon to Tatiana Schlossberg, along with a note that read, “Dearest Tatiana, I love you. Sincerely, Naeem,” according to the criminal complaint.
On May 1, 2009, court papers claim Ahmed sent Schlossberg a set of balloons, flowers and a note with birthday wishes. He also sent Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg flowers and a note wishing her a happy Mother’s Day.
Three weeks later, Ahmed sent Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and Edwin Schlossberg an email message that included the following remarks: “Dearest, please, don’t involve anyone else in this matter at this time. We can talk and solve all family matters by ourselves … Now, I don’t trust anybody else, except you, at this time.”
The note further read, “I am not gonna live in this uncertain and painful situation and not gonna suffer any stress and tension (created by others) any more, at all because enough is enough. … This is our very personal family matter. We have to have deal with it very personally, indeed,” according to court papers.
On Nov. 20, 2009, police said Ahmed went a step further — approaching the Schlossberg home in an effort to visit them. Four days later, in another visit, Ahmed was asked to leave the Schlossberg family alone and “cease his efforts to communicate with them,” according to court papers.
After telling the family he would no longer contact them, Ahmed sent an e-card greeting on Feb. 13, 2010, to Tatiana Schlossberg with a message that read, in part: “My Dearest Hunny Bunny! Have A Happy Valentine’s Day. Do I love you? Yes I do. Do you? Truly Yours, Yours Hubby, Naeem.”
