Girls basketball roundup: Gordon shoots Horace Mann to non-league win

The threat of a fierce snow storm forced Horace Mann to move its game up a day. The schedule change didn’t have any ill effects on the host Lions.

Horace Mann jumped ahead early and never looked back in a 49-24 win over Nightingale-Bamford in non-league girls basketball Monday. Maddy Gordon led all scorers with 17 points for Horace Mann (5-1). Maya Levine and Kaitlin Puglia came off the bench to score four points each for the Lions, who led 32-6 lead at the half. Mann is 2-0 on the New Year and its only loss is to Ivy League foe Hackley. Nightingale-Bamford is 1-6.

St. Joseph by the Sea 45, Susan Wagner 36: Lisa Galasso dropped in 21 points and Lisa LaVara added seven for St. Joseph by the Sea (4-4) in non-league. Meaghan Heaney led Wagner (6-7) with 15 points.

CHSAA STATEN ISLAND

St. Peter’s 63, Notre Dame Academy 44: Jamie O’Hare scored 22 points and connected on three 3-pointers for St. Peter’s (7-3, 3-0) in a 63-44 win over Notre Dame Academy in CHSAA Staten Island. Christine Kline had 11 points, Kelsey Geisler nine and Ashley Motrechuk eight. Sam LaForgia led NDA (4-6, 1-2) with 11 points and Samantha Murry added 10.

Graphic Communication Arts 76, Economics & Finance 23: Batouly Camara had 21 points, Bobbie Whitehead had 16 points and Althea Barnes added 11 points for GCA (7-5 Manhattan A West). Economics & Finance is 0-8.

FDR 35, Sheepshead Bay 30: Angelica Nelson had 12 points to lead FDR (2-6 Brooklyn A South). Sheepshead is 1-8.
